Balchem launches StabiliPro excipient portfolio to extend probiotic shelf life
Balchem Corporation has introduced StabiliPro, a multifunctional excipient portfolio designed to enhance stability in probiotic formulations and reduce the need for probiotic overages in finished products.
Clean-label solution addresses industry challenges
The clean-label excipient system aims to maintain probiotic integrity throughout product shelf life, addressing one of the key technical challenges in probiotic product development. Probiotics are particularly sensitive to harsh processing conditions and high-moisture environments, leading many manufacturers to add excess probiotic material to compensate for viability loss during storage.
According to Josephine Nakhla, Strategic Marketing & Business Development Manager at Balchem, Powders & Cereal: “The probiotics market is growing rapidly and shows no signs of slowing down, so solutions like StabiliPro are essential in ensuring that functional food, beverage and dietary supplement innovators can achieve effective, cost-efficient formu-
lations to meet the demands of today’s health-conscious consumers.”
Market growth drives demand for stability solutions
The probiotic industry is currently valued at $73 billion and is projected to reach $110 billion by 2030, according to Statista and Grandview Research. This growth is driven by consumer interest in gut health, digestive support, immunity, and mental wellbeing applications.
StabiliPro leverages Balchem’s particle engineering expertise to provide stability across various formulation types, including dietary supplements, functional foods, and beverages. The portfolio is designed to enable longer shelf life whilst maintaining clean label status.
Technical presentation scheduled
Balchem presented the StabiliPro portfolio at SupplySide Global 2025 in Las Vegas from 27-30 October. The company’s technical team delivered a presentation titled “StabiliPro Advantage: Unlocking More Shelf-Stable Probiotic Formulations” which detailed the science and formulation benefits of the new excipient system.
