Persimmon extract from Euromed shows clinical efficacy for weight management
A new persimmon extract (Diospyros kaki L.f.) has demonstrated significant effects on body composition and fat mass reduction in a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The ingredient, called perFix, was developed by Spanish botanical extract manufacturer Euromed using their Pure-Hydro Process water-based extraction technology.
The 120-day clinical trial, conducted at the Universidad Católica San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM), involved 71 participants classified as overweight or mildly obese. Subjects receiving 400mg/day of perFix showed statistically significant changes compared to the placebo group:
• Average weight loss of 2.2kg versus 0.7kg weight gain in placebo group
• Fat mass reduction of 2.1kg versus 1.1kg increase in placebo group
• Specific reduction in trunk fat mass of 1.1kg
• Decreased waist, abdominal and hip circumferences
• No significant reduction in lean muscle mass
Notable efficacy parameters
The research team observed that most beneficial effects manifested by the 60-day midpoint, including improvements in anthropometric measurements, inflammatory markers and mental health scores. The maintenance of lean muscle mass during fat reduction suggests metabolic health benefits beyond simple weight loss.
