Roquette launches HORIZONS foresight platform for food industry

Roquette has launched HORIZONS, a foresight platform designed to help food and nutrition businesses anticipate industry changes and develop long-term strategic responses to uncertainty in the sector.

Roquette introduces HORIZONS

The platform combines AI-driven scanning technology with expert analysis to identify emerging signals across lifestyle trends, regulations, technologies, market dynamics and resource management. The French plant-based ingredients manufacturer positions the tool as a response to increasing complexity in the food system driven by consumer expectations, regulatory changes and sustainability pressures.

Methodology and structure

HORIZONS operates through a four-step process beginning with signal detection, which spans multiple domains relevant to food production. These signals are subsequently transformed into prioritised radars based on their likelihood and potential impact. Roquette specialists then construct scenarios exploring how different conditions might shape future outcomes, before translating these into practical resources including ideation tools for strategy development.

The platform incorporates collaborations with external organisations including think tank Hello Tomorrow and EDHEC Business School to strengthen its scanning capabilities and ensure analytical rigour.

Applications for manufacturers

According to the company, HORIZONS enables food manufacturers to connect macro-level drivers with immediate market realities, allowing businesses to anticipate regulatory shifts and consumer behaviour changes. The platform provides a framework for stress-testing strategies across multiple potential futures, whilst accelerating innovation cycles through structured foresight.

“HORIZONS is about giving the food industry the confidence to look further ahead and act with clarity today,” said Sébastien Adelis, Roquette’s Food & Nutrition Global Insights and Digital Planner. “Our industry is being reshaped by shifting consumer expectations, new health priorities, regulatory pressures, and breakthrough technologies. The challenge is not simply keeping pace with these changes but anticipating what they will mean. By combining advanced analytics with the expertise of our teams worldwide, HORIZONS transforms uncertainty into clear direction, enabling our partners to accelerate innovation, build resilience, and shape a more sustainable future.”

Platform resources and access

The initial launch provides online access to selected foresight resources through a strategic toolbox containing industry radars, driver cards, scenarios and ideation materials. These tools are intended to facilitate new approaches to food system planning, with options for tailored co-creation projects between Roquette and industry partners.

Roquette emphasises that whilst AI accelerates the scanning process, expert human interpretation remains central to the platform’s value proposition. Each signal and scenario undergoes validation by specialists to ensure credibility and actionability of outputs.

Roquette employs more than 11,000 people globally, operating in over 150 countries through more than 40 manufacturing sites and 20 R&D and innovation centres. The family-owned company achieved a turnover of €4.5 billion in 2024, producing plant-based ingredients derived from wheat, maize and cellulose for applications in food, pharmaceuticals and bio-based products.
