Arla Foods Ingredients unveils protein bar concept addressing texture stability challenges
Arla Foods Ingredients has introduced Easy Bite, a protein bar concept designed to demonstrate improved nutritional profiles whilst maintaining sensory attributes over extended shelf life.
High-protein formulation with minimal ingredients
The bite-size snack, launched at SupplySide Global (27-30 October in Las Vegas), delivers up to 40% protein content in an 18g serving using the company’s Lacprodan® EasyBar whey protein solution. The formulation contains eight ingredients and is characterised by high fibre content, with no added sugar, fat or maltitol.
The concept addresses a significant technical challenge in protein bar manufacturing: textural deterioration during storage. According to the company, Easy Bite maintains stable softness over a two-year shelf life without requiring additional fat or water-binding ingredients such as collagen.
Market drivers and product positioning
Peter Schouw Andersen, senior director, performance nutrition at Arla Foods Ingredients, said: “We’ve created this concept to respond to the biggest trends in the protein bar market. Taste and texture are still king but health considerations are increasingly important – for younger consumers in particular. Easy Bite meets all these needs, offering a high-protein, low-fat, fibre-rich option that retains its softness without the need for a long ingredients list.”
Additional protein concepts showcased
Alongside Easy Bite, Arla Foods Ingredients presented two other protein applications:
A protein-fortified carbonated beverage featuring Lacprodan BLG-100, containing 10g protein per serving with zero sugar content.
A clear protein shake concept utilising Lacprodan ISO.RefreshShake, delivering 20g protein per 300ml serving with rapid foam breakdown properties.
The developments respond to consumer data indicating that 90% of global consumers now consider snacking essential to daily routines, with health factors increasingly influencing product selection.
