New heights in conveying capacity

Key Technology has launched its latest innovation in food handling equipment: high-capacity vibratory conveyors capable of processing up to 45,359 kg of product per hour. These systems, which can be manufactured with widths exceeding 3 metres, represent a significant advancement in conveying technology for the food industry.

The new conveyors are engineered to perform a range of critical functions, including grading, aligning, and distributing food products. Key Technology has leveraged its expertise in natural frequency, electromagnetic, and horizontal-motion conveying to develop these high-throughput systems, which are available across their Iso-Flo®, Impulse®, Zephyr®, and Marathon® product lines.

Customisation for optimal performance

One of the primary advantages of these new conveyors is their adaptability to various food types and processing requirements. The systems can be fine-tuned to handle a diverse array of products, including fruits, vegetables, potato products, nuts, meats, dairy items, confectionery, snacks, baked goods, and cereals.

Jack Lee, Duravant Group President – Food Sorting and Handling Solutions, emphasised the importance of customisation in these systems: “Our deep expertise in natural frequency, electromagnetic and horizontal-motion food conveying makes Key Technology uniquely positioned to design and build these high-capacity systems. They require a sophisticated understanding of how various foods need to be conveyed and the ability to customise each conveyor around the application requirements — not just any equipment manufacturer can do this.”

Technical specifications

The conveyor designs incorporate several adjustable parameters to optimise performance:

  1. Tuning and stroke customisation for each vibratory system
  2. Flexible positioning of spring arms (on bed sides or underneath)
  3. Variable drive locations (outside, inside, or near the frame centre)
  4. Customised frame design and rigidity based on application needs
  5. Multiple installation options (suspended, floor-supported, or machine-mounted)

Beyond basic conveying, these systems offer advanced capabilities even at high capacities. They can facilitate specialised processes such as:

  1. Grading
  2. Fines removal
  3. Dewatering
  4. Product distribution
  5. Spreading for downstream equipment (e.g., sorters)

Industry impact and market positioning

The introduction of these high-capacity conveyors comes at a time when the food processing industry is experiencing increased demand for processed foods. Key Technology’s new systems aim to address this trend by enabling processors to maximise production capacity on existing lines and install new lines capable of higher throughputs.

Lee commented on the market drivers behind this innovation: “As demand for processed foods continues to grow, processors are looking to maximize production capacity on existing lines and install new lines capable of higher-than-ever throughputs. Key’s high-capacity conveyors support these objectives while helping processors streamline their operations, reduce labour and maximize profits.”

Quality assurance and support

Key Technology has emphasised the reliability and efficiency of these new systems. The conveyors are backed by the company’s comprehensive warranty, which aims to ensure equipment dependability and reduce the overall cost of ownership for processors.

To support the global rollout of these high-capacity conveyors, Key Technology is leveraging its extensive sales network and international service team.
