Krones advances can-filling technology with refined block system
The German beverage technology company Krones has enhanced its Modulfill Bloc FS-C system, offering improved efficiency and flexibility for beverage manufacturers processing up to 135,000 cans per hour. The integrated block solution, which launched seven years ago, demonstrates significant advances in automated control systems and cleanroom technology.
Streamlined control enhances operational efficiency
The system’s unified control panel and automated mechanisms significantly reduce the need for manual intervention, addressing a key challenge in high-volume beverage processing. The block’s design incorporates automatic height adjustment and quick-change components, facilitating rapid format changes. A notable innovation is the implementation of combined centring bells that accommodate multiple can formats, enhancing the system’s versatility.
Advanced cleanroom innovation reduces footprint
For manufacturers handling sensitive beverages such as tea and juices, Krones has developed a compact cleanroom configuration that delivers substantial space savings. This variant achieves a 35% smaller footprint compared to traditional free-standing machine arrangements. The optimised design reduces the hygiene-critical filling and seaming zone volume by 90% compared to conventional large cleanroom configurations, resulting in decreased filtering material requirements.
Seaming technology receives significant upgrade
The system’s Modulseam component has undergone substantial technical refinements, particularly in its drive system. The integration of servo-technology, with drive trains divided into distinct functional zones, enables enhanced process monitoring and predictive maintenance capabilities. The machine bed has been re-engineered to maintain optimal stability under high dynamic loads, while modifications to the base and turret improve accessibility for maintenance operations.
Enhanced media efficiency
According to Sebastian Wittl, product manager for filling technology at Krones: “Our Modulfill Bloc FS-C is the most media-efficient block currently available on the market. Thanks to our isolator concept and the well-thought-out cleaning system, beverage producers benefit from economical use of media. What’s more, our holistically conceived block concept scores exceptionally well with its excellent operator-friendliness, especially when it comes to format change-overs.”
The system demonstrates particular suitability for beverage manufacturers managing diverse product portfolios in smaller batch sizes, whilst maintaining capabilities for large-scale production of up to 135,000 cans per hour. The technology accommodates a wide range of beverages, including beer, carbonated soft drinks, water, and sensitive products requiring enhanced hygiene protocols.
