SIG unveils faster aseptic filling machine for multi-serve formats

The aseptic packaging sector has gained a significant new offering with SIG’s introduction of its Neo Slimline 15 Aseptic filling machine, engineered specifically for multi-serve formats. The system, which launches at Gulfood Manufacturing in Dubai this November, achieves filling speeds of up to 15,000 SIG SlimlineBloc packs hourly – marking a 25% increase in throughput compared to the company’s standard family-size format machines.

Technical specifications and operational benefits

The Neo Slimline 15 operates with an industry-leading waste rate below 0.5% while handling multiple packaging volumes (1L, 750mL and 500mL) and various product categories. A key technical feature is the SIG Neo Shield system, which enhances sterile airflow during bottom sealing and pre-folding operations, removing up to 95% of airborne particles. This advancement enables extended production cycles whilst maintaining aseptic integrity.

The machine incorporates semi-automatic cleaning capabilities, which SIG reports will reduce downtime whilst improving cleaning efficacy. The system’s human-machine interface (HMI) has been designed to provide real-time performance analytics and facilitate intuitive operation.

Production efficiency and space utilisation

For food manufacturing facilities where space optimisation is crucial, the Neo Slimline 15 maintains a compact footprint whilst delivering increased output. The system can achieve an annual production capacity of 70 million packs, operating with what SIG claims is a 15% reduction in total filling costs compared to their standard multi-serve aseptic carton filling machines.

Christoph Wegener, Chief Markets Officer at SIG, explained the technical advantages: “The SIG Neo Slimline 15 Aseptic delivers uniquely on all these fronts. It offers the industry-leading waste rate of less than 0.5%, smart digitalization in operations, and up to 15% reduced Total Filling Costs compared to SIG’s standard filling machines for multi-serve aseptic cartons.”

Material compatibility and sustainability considerations

The system is engineered to run with SIG’s Terra suite of lower-carbon aseptic carton packaging materials, supporting manufacturers’ sustainability initiatives. This compatibility allows food producers to maintain high-speed production whilst utilising more environmentally conscious packaging substrates.

Future developments and availability

According to SIG’s technical roadmap, the Neo technology platform will be extended to additional aseptic carton filling machines across both multi-serve and single-serve formats. The company has indicated that the advancements in sterility control and operational efficiency demonstrated in the Neo Slimline 15 will inform future system developments.

Speaking about the technical implications, Gavin Steiner, Chief Technology Officer at SIG, stated: “The SIG Neo Slimline 15 Aseptic is a testament to SIG’s commitment to innovation, helping manufacturers achieve growth, efficiency, and quality like never before. This is particularly interesting for manufacturers who want to grow fast — even with limited space.”
