New production line enhances powder quality

The €5 million investment includes a spray drying tower, agglomerator, blender and packaging line, representing the group’s first large-scale spray drying facility. The installation enables production of Galimax ACE-N-50 and Galimax DIACE-N-47, both designed to ensure taste and safety in meat and meat alternative products at low dosage rates.

Compared to previous formulations, the new spray-dried powders feature lower moisture content and larger particle sizes, reducing caking risk during storage. These modifications improve handling characteristics, reduce dusting, enhance solubility and provide better flow properties for manufacturing applications.

Sustainable packaging transition

In line with sustainability commitments, Galactic has transitioned product packaging from plastic to 100% recyclable aluminium materials. This change reduces packaging waste whilst providing improved durability and premium product protection during storage and transport.

Both Galimax ACE-N-50 and Galimax DIACE-N-47 carry Kosher (Badatz standard) and Halal certification, addressing requirements for diverse market applications.

Market expansion strategy

From the Chinese production base, Galactic plans to distribute the preservative powders to strategic markets including Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions, responding to growing demand for high-quality antimicrobial solutions.

“This investment represents a significant milestone for us,” said Harry Vasilopoulos, Senior Product Manager at Galactic. “By producing Galimax ACE-N-50 and Galimax DIACE-N-47 in this state-of-the-art facility, we can ensure superior product quality, increased supply chain agility and greater cost-efficiency for our customers.”

Innovation platform development

Beyond production capacity expansion, the facility serves as an innovation platform for fermentation experts to develop new antimicrobials and innovative powder formulations. The site includes laboratory-scale facilities for pilot projects and experimental trials, enabling efficient testing and refinement processes.

“The new spray dryer provides exciting opportunities for our team of fermentation experts to expand, innovate and deliver high-quality products to our customers,” Vasilopoulos added. “We plan to extend our powder portfolio by launching various other solutions for use in meat and poultry, ready meals and seafood applications, to name a few.”

Established in 1994, Galactic operates as a global leader in fermentation technology, specialising in lactic acid and derivative production. The company maintains state-of-the-art production facilities across Europe, Asia and North America, supported by research teams in Belgium, China and the United States, with additional offices in Brazil, Mexico and Japan.
