GNT launches certified organic pink food colouring from sweet potatoes

GNT has introduced EXBERRY Organics Brilliant Pink, a plant-based food colouring concentrate derived from purple sweet potatoes. The new organic-certified ingredient is designed for heat-resistant applications including beverages, confectionery, and dairy products, supporting clean labelling requirements across multiple food categories.

Heat-stable formulation targets multiple applications

The liquid-based concentrate is manufactured using physical processing methods and complies with both EU and US organic certification standards. In European markets, the ingredient supports simple label declarations as “concentrate (sweet potato – from certified organic agriculture)”, while US manufacturers can declare it as “organic vegetable juice for colour.”

The formulation demonstrates stability in high-temperature processing conditions and performs effectively in low-pH environments. Target applications include beverages, gummies, chewy toffees, frozen desserts, yoghurt, and fruit preparations.

Addressing organic market perception challenges

Anne van der Meijde, Product Manager at GNT Group, explained the market context: “The organic sector is seeing renewed interest as consumers look for more natural and sustainable food and drink, but there can be a perception that these products are less indulgent. EXBERRY Organics Brilliant Pink helps manufacturers create attractive, appetising organic products without having to compromise on the ingredient list.”

Complete spectrum approach to natural colouring

The EXBERRY Organics portfolio now encompasses pink, red, purple, blue, green, orange and yellow shades, providing manufacturers with comprehensive colouring solutions across different product categories. This range expansion supports both visual requirements and technical specifications for organic food production.

The parent EXBERRY brand portfolio includes colours derived from non-GMO fruit, vegetables, and plants, available in multiple formats. Applications span confectionery, dairy, bakery, soft and alcoholic beverages, cereals, snacks, sauces, savoury products, and plant-based alternatives to meat, seafood, and dairy.

Technical support and colour matching services

GNT’s approach includes comprehensive technical assistance throughout product development phases. Van der Meijde noted: “At GNT, we pride ourselves on offering a wide range of plant-based colouring solutions to meet different application requirements. Our experts will work with manufacturers to select the best colouring solution for their project needs and help them achieve the results they need.”

The company’s support services encompass concept innovation, colour selection and matching, stability testing, upscaling protocols, regulatory compliance, and quality documentation.

Global presence

Founded in 1978, GNT operates as a family-owned enterprise specialising in plant-based, sustainable ingredients. The company maintains its headquarters in Mierlo, The Netherlands, with additional offices across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East.

The family ownership structure enables long-term strategic planning, including sustainability commitments and investments in supply chain security through extended stockholding arrangements. This approach supports consistent ingredient availability for manufacturers requiring reliable colouring solutions.
