Beneo unveils sugar-free hard candy concepts through new Sweets Box collection

Beneo has launched a collection of sugar-free confectionery concepts under its new Sweets Box, aimed at helping manufacturers reimagine hard boiled candy formats using the company’s Isomalt sugar replacer. The launch positions Isomalt as the functional ingredient behind a set of prototypes designed to translate current flavour and beverage trends into confectionery applications.

Drink-inspired formats target flavour trends

The Sweets Box features a series of drink-inspired candy concepts that carry familiar beverage profiles into a solid confectionery format. The Yuzu & Matcha Liquid Filled Candy pairs citrus notes with a matcha liquid centre, an Asian-inspired combination intended to appeal to consumers seeking novel and differentiated taste experiences. The concept combines taste, texture and visual appeal in a single multi-sensorial format.

The Caramel Coffee Candy offers a coffee-flavoured hard candy designed to deliver a caffeine boost within a sugar-free matrix, developed against the backdrop of a global caffeine market that the company cites as forecast to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 9% over the next five years.

A third concept, the Energy Drink Candy, translates the flavour profile of energy drinks into a shareable hard candy format targeted at young adult consumers, again built around a quick caffeine delivery proposition.

Isomalt’s functional role in formulation

All three concepts rely on Isomalt, which Beneo describes as the leading sugar replacer for sugar-free hard boiled candies. Derived from sugar beet, the ingredient provides a mild, sugar-like taste without a cooling effect, allowing formulators to work across a range of flavour profiles. Isomalt also supports colour stability and swirl effects using up to four colours, enabling visually distinct confectionery designs.

From a processing standpoint, Isomalt’s low hygroscopicity is cited as a factor in preventing stickiness and extending shelf life, while its processing characteristics support multi-layer and filled candy construction. Its low solubility is also noted to slow dissolution in the mouth, extending the sensory consumption experience, a property relevant to product developers working on portion perception and consumer engagement.

Market context for functional confectionery

Beneo frames the launch against a functional confectionery market it says is set to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8% between 2025 and 2033, positioning the Sweets Box concepts as a response to demand for confectionery that combines indulgence with added functional value.
