DolCas Biotech’s tiny sachet packs a big collagen punch
DolCas Biotech has introduced a new single-serve sachet format for Morikol®, its marine-derived collagen tripeptide ingredient, offering food and beverage formulators a convenient, low-dose delivery option with clinically demonstrated bioactivity.
The 1g and 2g sachets contain a flavourless, odour-neutral powder that is 100% water-soluble and designed to be consumed directly without mixing into liquid. The “melt-in-your-mouth” format requires no flavour masking and leaves no aftertaste, addressing a longstanding formulation challenge in the collagen ingredient category.
Beyond amino acids:
the GPH difference Unlike conventional hydrolysed collagen products, which are digested into free amino acids, Morikol is standardised to deliver intact glycine-proline-hydro-xyproline (GPH) tripeptides. These short-chain peptides are absorbed efficiently into circulation and act as biological messengers, activating fibroblasts to stimulate production of collagen, elastin, and extracellular matrix proteins.
K. G. Rao, founder and CEO of DolCas Biotech, notes that conventional collagen peptides typically recommend consumption on an empty stomach for optimal uptake. “When DolCas performed a comprehensive critical review of the ingredient, superior standardisation properties were revealed that made it unique compared to other collagen products,” he said.
Morikol is produced from the skin of ASC-certified freshwater tilapia via a proprietary enzymatic hydrolysis process engineered to yield consistent levels of total tripeptides, Gly-X-Y (GXY) peptides, and Gly-Pro-Hyp (GPH) peptides.
Clinical data at a low dose
Placebo-controlled human studies demonstrated statistically significant improvements in key skin parameters at a daily dose of just 1 to 2g, considerably lower than the 2.5 to 10g doses typically associated with conventional collagen peptide products. Results observed within 6 to 12 weeks of supplementation included a tenfold improvement in wrinkle reduction (crow’s feet, via visual assessment), alongside improvements in skin hydration and smoothness. Measurable reductions in skin roughness were apparent in as few as six weeks.
Rao positions the ingredient as operating on a fundamentally different mechanism: “By delivering bioactive GPH tripeptides that activate fibroblasts and stimulate collagen and hyaluronic acid synthesis at the cellular level, Morikol acts not just as collagen protein but as a targeted bioactive signalling system designed to support skin and connective tissue health from within.”
Broader applications in connective tissue health
Beyond skin, the GPH tripeptide profile shows potential for supporting tendons, ligaments, joints, and bone, pointing to applicability in sports nutrition and healthy ageing formulations where collagen turnover and musculoskeletal integrity are relevant endpoints.
Formulation flexibility
The low effective dose enables a range of delivery formats. DolCas has previously incorporated Morikol into a functional chocolate bar (1g per 8g cube) and it is available in functional beverages, powdered premixes, capsules, and gummy formats.
Morikol carries halal and OU Kosher certification. Marine sourcing eliminates concerns associated with bovine-derived collagen ingredients, including BSE and FMD considerations.
The new sachet format was showcased at Vitafoods Europe 2026 in Barcelona.
