Klöckner Pentaplast adds fruit trays to kp Infinity range
Klöckner Pentaplast (kp), a global supplier of rigid and flexible packaging and specialty film solutions, has extended its kp Infinity® portfolio with a new fruit tray range built for packed fresh fruit. The launch moves the mono-material, fully recyclable format beyond food-to-go applications and into fresh produce packaging, addressing sector-wide demand for solutions that support recyclability and cut food waste.
From food-to-go to fresh produce
The kp Infinity range built its reputation in food-to-go packaging, and kp has now translated that format into dedicated tray designs for fresh fruit. Retailers, producers and consumers are placing growing weight on packaging sustainability, and fresh produce businesses in particular are seeking formats that reduce food waste and improve recyclability without compromising shelf appeal. The new trays have been developed specifically to meet that brief.
Material and functional properties
The trays are manufactured from expanded polypropylene (EPP), giving a lightweight but durable structure that helps protect fruit through the supply chain, an approach intended to limit product damage and associated waste. The format has a traditional, artisan-style appearance for on-shelf presentation and is stackable, supporting efficient handling, transport and storage. Clear, consumer-facing recycling messaging is built into the trays to simplify disposal and encourage recycling participation. kp also reports a lower carbon footprint for the trays, alongside reduced water and energy use in manufacture, relative to alternative packaging materials.
A complete pack solution
For customers wanting a full packaging system, the fruit trays can be paired with kp FlexiStretch® overwrap or kp FlexiFlow® films, combining protection and presentation from packing line through to retail shelf.
