Danone secures CDP Triple A rating for environmental performance

The recognition follows assessment of nearly 20,000 companies worldwide and reflects verified environmental disclosure and measurable progress in corporate sustainability programmes.

B Corp certification and emission reduction targets

The achievement coincides with Danone’s attainment of full global B Corp certification in 2025, encompassing more than 200 legal entities across over 60 countries. The company has intensified efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within its supply chain, with particular emphasis on methane reduction in fresh milk sourcing operations.

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, chief executive officer of Danone, commented: “Year after year, we deliver tangible progress on our health, environmental, and social ambitions. This is a demanding journey – one that requires the engagement of our entire value chain, working together to build resilient and sustainable food systems.”

Water resource management and dairy supply initiatives

Danone’s 2025 sustainability activities included the public release of its SPRING methodology for water resource optimisation and renewal of its partnership with the Ramsar Convention, the international treaty focused on wetland conservation. The company also launched the Danone Milk Academy, designed to strengthen resilience within its dairy supply chain through farmer engagement programmes.

Forest monitoring and traceability systems

In forest preservation, the company has enhanced traceability capabilities through two partnerships deploying satellite monitoring technology, alongside increased supplier engagement protocols. These initiatives form part of the Danone Impact Journey, the company’s sustainability framework.

Sherry Madera, chief executive officer of CDP, said: “Businesses earning an ‘A’ score are proving that environmental ambition and commercial strength go hand in hand. High quality data gives leaders the confidence to make earth-positive decisions that secure long-term competitiveness, attract capital and safeguard natural systems.”

Company performance metrics

Danone operates across three product categories: Essential Dairy & Plant-Based products, Waters, and Specialised Nutrition. The company employs over 90,000 people and generated €27.4 billion in sales during 2024, with products distributed across more than 120 markets. Its portfolio includes international brands such as Actimel, Activia, Alpro, Aptamil and evian, alongside regional brands including AQUA, Blédina and Oikos.

The CDP assessment process evaluates corporate environmental disclosure quality, awareness of environmental risks, and demonstration of best practices in environmental management, including target-setting and strategy implementation.
