Prinova acquires Brazilian ingredients distributor Aplinova
The move enhances Prinova’s presence in Latin America, following its 2023 acquisition of citrus oil processor Flavor Tec, and will provide customers with access to Aplinova’s newly opened innovation centre in Jundiaí, which focuses on natural flavours, health and wellness customisations, and sugar reduction solutions.
Prinova, a wholly owned subsidiary of the NAGASE Group, has expanded its global footprint through the acquisition of Brazilian ingredients distributor Aplinova, the company announced on 2 April 2025. This strategic move represents a significant enhancement of Prinova’s presence in Latin America’s ingredient market, particularly in Brazil.
Market growth and innovation focus
Founded in 1987 and based in São Paulo, Aplinova has established itself as a leading provider of specialty ingredients for food, beverage, supplements and personal care sectors. The company has demonstrated consistent commercial success with double-digit year-on-year growth since 2020. A key asset in the acquisition is Aplinova’s recently opened facility in Jundiaí, which houses an Innovation Centre. This facility was established with a dual purpose: driving growth while adhering to higher environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards and sustainability requirements. The centre’s current focus areas include natural flavours, customisations for health and wellness applications, and technical solutions for sugar reduction – all areas of significant interest to food scientists working on product formulation challenges.
Strategic expansion in Latin America
This acquisition follows Prinova’s 2023 takeover of Flavor Tec, a Brazilian citrus oil processor, indicating a systematic approach to expanding its Latin American operations.
Richard McEvoy, President and CEO of the Prinova Group, commented on the strategic importance of the Brazilian market: “The Brazilian ingredients market is increasingly important and Aplinova has long been one its key players, so we’re excited to bring them into the Prinova family. This is another big milestone on our growth journey, and a crucial step in our long-term mission to expand our global presence. Most importantly, it will bring significant benefits to manufacturers, both in the LatAm region, and across the world.”
Technical expertise and service continuity
From a technical perspective, the acquisition will enable Prinova’s customers to access Aplinova’s expertise and industry knowledge, while maintaining service standards for Aplinova’s existing client base.
Barry Kelly, Group Managing Director, Prinova Global, highlighted the technical benefits: “Aplinova has a deserved reputation for innovation and a truly top-tier team. We’re delighted that Prinova’s customers will now have access to a new wealth of technical expertise and industry knowledge. At the same time, we’re looking forward to ensuring that we maintain the high levels of service that Aplinova’s customers have long enjoyed.”
Consumer-driven product development
The acquisition aligns with increasing market demand for functional and health-oriented products, a trend that food scientists are actively responding to in their formulation work.
Masaya Ikemoto, Representative Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer at NAGASE Group, emphasised this alignment with consumer preferences: “We have a long-term vision for global growth, but it’s also crucial to us that we maintain our core values. Aplinova is a company that shares our passion for innovation, and our commitment to meeting the needs of our customers and end-consumers. At a time when consumer-driven demand for healthy and functional products has never been higher, the opportunities that this acquisition will create are incredibly exciting.”
