SPX FLOW’s APV SteamRecycle wins 2026 SEAL sustainability award

SPX FLOW has received the 2026 SEAL Sustainable Product Award for its APV Infusion UHT system featuring SteamRecycle™ – a closed-loop steam recovery technology designed to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in ultra-high temperature (UHT) processing of dairy, plant-based, and beverage products.

The SEAL Sustainable Product Award recognises products purpose-built to deliver measurable environmental benefit. This is the third consecutive SEAL win for SPX FLOW, following earlier recognition for its APV pigging recovery technology and the APV UHT Seamless Infusion Vessel.

SPX FLOW’s APV Infusion UHT system featuring SteamRecycle

How SteamRecycle works

In conventional infusion UHT systems, steam is generated, used once for heating, and then discharged – requiring continuous fresh steam production, typically via fossil fuel combustion. The SteamRecycle system departs from this model by capturing process steam, purifying it, and mechanically recompressing it for reuse within a closed loop.

The result is that 100 per cent of the steam generated during processing is recirculated, eliminating the need for boiler steam during production runs. The system also reduces water recircula-tion demands compared to traditional infusion UHT configurations.

Emissions and energy impact

Depending on operating hours and specific application, SPX FLOW says the technology can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 1,000 tonnes annually relative to conventional infusion UHT systems.

Pranav Shah, Global Product Manager for UHT Systems at SPX FLOW, commented: “This innovation tackles one of the most energy-intensive parts of UHT processing by recycling process steam instead of wasting it, which helps dairy, plant-based and beverage producers cut energy use, lower emissions and move closer to long-term sustainable operations.”

Broader sustainability context

The award follows SPX FLOW’s inclusion on the Inc. Best in Business list for Best Social Good in December 2025, where the company was recognised for its Waukesha Cherry-Burrell pump manufacturing process.

SPX FLOW operates in more than 25 countries, with sales across more than 140 countries, and focuses on process technologies for nutrition, health, and industrial markets.
