Actus Nutrition has completed a major expansion and infrastructure modernisation project at its Fond du Lac, Wisconsin facility, adding 40 million pounds (approximately 18.1 million kg) of annual whey powder production capacity. The Eden Prairie, Minnesota based dairy ingredients manufacturer said the investment strengthens its position as a global supplier of dairy nutrition ingredients and supports growing customer demand across its whey portfolio.

New automation and process upgrades

The project introduced next-generation robotics, automation systems and process improvements intended to increase efficiency, product quality and operational scalability. Upgrades covered drying operations, liquid management capabilities and carbohydrate processing systems at the site.

“This expansion represents continued investment in our people, our capabilities, and the future of dairy nutrition manufacturing in Wisconsin,” said David Lenzmeier, Chief Executive Officer of Actus Nutrition. “By combining advanced automation technologies with critical infrastructure improvements, we are increasing our capacity to serve customers while strengthening our long-term competitiveness.”

More than 100 contractors worked alongside Actus Nutrition employees and project partners to complete the multi-million-dollar initiative. The company said the expansion is expected to create several new full-time positions, along with additional leadership and career progression opportunities for existing staff.

A century of whey processing at Fond du Lac

Originally built in 1918, the Fond du Lac facility is described by Actus Nutrition as North America’s largest whey protein isolate manufacturing site. It produces a broad range of whey-based ingredients, including whey protein concentrates, isolates, hydrolysates, sweet whey powder and specialty ingredients such as lactoferrin.

“This investment is about more than additional capacity, it’s about building a foundation for future growth,” Lenzmeier added. “By modernising key areas of the facility and investing in advanced automation technologies, we’re creating a more efficient, scalable operation that will help us better serve our customers, support our employees, and strengthen our business for years to come.”
